Nominations open for the 2007 Organic Semiconductor Industry Awards

The 2007 Organic Semiconductor Industry Awards (OSIA) are now open for nominations. The aim of the awards is to bring together the whole of the organic semiconductor and organic electronics industry (including flexible, plastic and printed electronics) in a celebration of the organisations and people that are leading the development of this emerging technology.

OSIA is sponsored by cintelliq ltd, providers of information services and strategic consulting to the organic semiconductor industry since 2002, and is run in association with OSA Direct, the world's leading newsletter on the organic semiconductor industry.

Nominations are invited in the following categories:
  • Research & Development Award
Entries in this category will be required to demonstrate an original concept, practical development and implementation of organic electronics or organic semiconductor technologies. Judges will look for the originality of the technology, how it addresses a specific market requirement and whether it successfully addresses a design or manufacturing problem.
Last year's winner: Iain McCulloch and Martin Heeney, Merck KGaA

  • Start-up of the Year
Companies which have set up operations in the last five years, whether venture funded or privately financed, will be considered for the start-up of the year award. Entries can come from any part of the value chain from material research and product development, through to design, engineering and manufacturing.
    Last year's winner: Plextronics Inc

  • Best Conference Peer-Review Paper
The peer-review committee of OEC-07 will select the best paper submitted to the conference. Each paper accepted will be judged for its originality, technical strength and ability to move the industry forward.
Last year's winner: Tatsuo Hasegawa, CERC-AIST
The closing date for nominations for the 2007 awards is 16 July 2007. The shortlist will be published on 3 September 2007 and the winners will be announced on 25 September 2007 at the Organic Electronics Conference and Exhibition Gala Dinner in Frankfurt, Germany.

An independent panel of industry experts will judge entrants for the Research & Development and Start-up of the Year awards. The peer-review committee for OEC-07 will select the winner of the Best Conference Peer-Review Paper award.

Craig Cruickshank, editor of OSA Direct, said, "Since the last awards in 2006 there have been many important technical developments across the industry, and an increasing number of start-ups are now entering commercialisation. We are expecting nominations for OSIA 2007 to reflect these exciting developments. With so much significant technical and commercial activity in the past 12 months we anticipate that selecting the winners of this year's awards will be a challenging task for our judges."
