Workshop 2.2: Printing Processes and Manufacturing
Workshop 2.2 is divided into two parts. Part 1 covers high volume printing processes for functional inks. Part 2 covers strategies for scaling up the manufacture of organic electronics.
Part 1: High volume printing processes and their potential for printing functional inks
Workshop leader: Thomas Walther, MAN Roland Druckmaschinen
13:30-15:00 Monday 24 September 2007

Until recently, printing technologies were aimed at creating attractive pictures. However, functional printing now presents entirely new challenges to printing technologies, and to the mass printing methods that can be used.

This workshop covers:
  • Principles of printing technologies, with the main focus on mass printing technologies (gravure, flexographic and offset printing)
  • Fundamental printing systematics and structuralisation technologies
  • Advantages and disadvantages of each printing method
  • Latest research
The benefits
  • Receive practical know-how of the key mass printing methods.
  • Gain a good understanding of the issues involved in printing functional inks.
Part 2: Strategies for scale up of organic electronics manufacturing
Workshop leader: Abbie Gregg, Abbie Gregg Inc.
15:30-17:00 Monday 24 September 2007

This workshop covers:
  • Prototype to Pilot line to Manufacturing: Definitions and Milestones
  • Insource or Outsource?
  • Who is on my team?
    • Materials, Equipment, Facilities
    • Process, Test, Assembly
  • Documentation and Tech Transfer Guidelines
